1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300
(1/24 Tamiya)
This is my latest build.
Its a 1966 model Volkswagen Beetle 1300 by Tamiya.
The details on this model are just phenomenal!
Its got an opening trunk and engine bay, beautifully detailed engine and stunning chrome work.
(the details are so good that after-market photo-etched parts and metal stickers are just not required! )

Re: 1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300
Update:
16 May 2012:Engine work is 70% complete.
Body work is complete. Waiting for paint.
The Engine in now 70% complete... a lot more parts still have to be fit in place and i'm trying to locally source some wire to make the distributor connections....
The interior floor carpeting is complete. Used Black Flock sourced from 'train modellers terrain flock'.
The Body is primered, sanded down and ready for paintwork. The paints have not yet arrived. the Tamiya guy says it'll take another day or so... So i guess i have to wait some more before i paint this model.
Couldn't find 'Bahama Blue' or 'Sea Blue' from anywhere so i'm going to paint her 'Fontana Grey' as in the Box art. I want to keep the paint authentic 1966 stock, so i guess i have no other option! (i don't want to paint her 'Pearl white' or 'Black')
Here are the progress pics:

Re: 1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300
Update:
May 18, 2012:
Engine block is finally finished....
Wiring work was difficult to say the least...
Since the original distributor wasn't provided with long enough lugs to attach the spark plug wires... i had to scratch build the distributor using a small plastic tube as the distributor body and clothes tag wires for the spark plug wires. ...
M-Seal was used to seal the wires into the body and the connection to the engine was done using another tiny plastic base.... this itself was a slow and painful process
I'm happy that the engine is now finally complete...
Only the air filter connection remains... that can only be attached after the engine goes into the chassis ...
